Beginner Vegetable Plants Anyone Can Grow

growing vegetables

Growing your own vegetables can be an amazing convenience. You don’t have to shop at the store as often for them. If you need more vegetables for a certain dish, all you have to do is go outside and pick them straight off the vine. There’s no waiting in line or having to pick through a mountain of them to find the best ones. So, if you’re just starting out growing vegetables, which ones should you choose? Here a couple of easy ones to start out with.

Spinach

Spinach is very healthy for you. You can make it into dip, add it to salads, and even use it in place of lettuce on sandwiches. Best of all, kids usually like the taste of spinach too! Spinach grows very well in low temperatures, usually between 40 to 75 degrees. It also does not require a lot of sunlight. If you have a window that receives plenty of sunlight, you can actually grow spinach indoors year round. Just make sure they get sun for at least 4 hours a day, and you’re set. You may have to add some fertilizer every couple of months to keep it healthy, but the tradeoff is worth it.

Tomatoes

These are another simple, but easy vegetable plant to raise during the growing season. Tomatoes are excellent if you have an area that receives a lot of sun. If you’re looking for a place to raise some vegetables, start off with these guys. Tomatoes grow fast in warm temperatures. Also, if want to enrich the soil for tomatoes, just add some Epsom salt on top. This will help your tomatoes to grow even better and become healthy. They do require some care, but its relatively easily. Tomatoes are hardy plants that any beginner gardener can start off with.

Sweet Peas

Do you want another vegetable you can add to your salad? Sweet peas are excellent to start growing. They sprout quickly and grow fast. They do need a decent amount of sun, usually six hours a day at least. Peas also do very well when the weather is still cool. So if the air is still a bit to nippy outside, you can plant sweet peas in order to get a head start on your harvest. Sweet peas are also vine plants, so you will need a trellis in order to hold them up. On the plus side, they give you quick harvest and are actually quite decorative all on their own.

These are just a few of the beginner vegetable plants you can start off with. When you’re starting out with your own vegetable garden, don’t leap right into it. Decide on a few plants you want to grow first instead of starting off several at once. Not only will this make it easier for you, but it will help to reap a bigger harvest later. Some plants will give you a lot of vegetables throughout the season so you will only have to grow a small number of them.
